INTENSIVE COUPLES THERAPY

We use an intensive form of therapy and give you as many tools as we can upfront so that it's within your power to get your relationship back on track. The initial layer is the Safe and Sound Protocol. This provides a nervous system reset by working with your polyvagal nerve through music. It's a great way to approach the difficult topics that often come up in couples counseling.

The next layer we use is the Gottman Method. This helps ensure we’re all working with the same language and concepts as we move deeper into your work. After that, we incorporate the Imago Dialogue Method so you can have contained conversations around conflict.

The final layer of intensive therapy uses the co-regulating techniques of Cherie Lindberg and includes Brainspotting to help us get to the root of the issues.

UP FOR SOME SOUL WORK?

In our couples counseling sessions at Crossings Health, you'll have the opportunity to uncover new, sometimes surprising aspects of your partner's life, even after years of being together. Our approach helps you discover key details about each other that significantly impact your relationship. We encourage moving beyond surface-level disagreements, like those about household chores, to explore the deeper origins of conflict. This journey fosters lasting change, characterized by deep, heartfelt understanding and connection. Our goal is to guide you and your partner towards a more profound and meaningful relationship, where each discovery strengthens your bond.

The Safe & Sound Protocol

Our nervous system plays a central role in how we respond to stress, process emotions, and engage in relationships. If it’s stuck in survival mode—whether due to trauma, chronic stress, or unresolved emotional wounds—it can be difficult to feel safe enough to fully engage in therapy.

THE GOTTMAN METHOD

The Gottman Method is a therapeutic approach designed to help couples strengthen their relationships and resolve conflicts. It's based on decades of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, who identified key factors that contribute to relationship success. The method involves assessment tools to understand each couple's unique dynamics, interventions to improve communication and understanding, and practical skills training to enhance friendship, intimacy, and conflict management. Couples learn to recognize destructive patterns and build positive habits that foster trust, connection, and long-lasting love.

IMAGO RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Imago Relationship Therapy works by guiding couples through a structured process of communication and understanding. It aims to help partners recognize and empathize with each other's underlying emotions and needs, often rooted in childhood experiences. Key components include dialogue techniques to improve communication, identifying patterns of behavior, and fostering empathy and connection. By addressing past wounds and current conflicts, couples can heal and create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

Co-Regulating

Couples co-regulating uses a concept developed by Cherie Lindberg, a renowned trainer and Brainspotting practitioner. She combines Brainspotting techniques with Parts work to support couples through difficult conversations and conflict dialogues.

The foundation of this approach is co-regulation. When we’re in a socially connected nervous system state, we’re better able to do the deeper work—getting to the root of issues, gaining insight, and beginning to heal deeper layers of trauma.
